The Gnu Image Manipulation Project, or GIMP, is a well-known alternative to Photoshop, given its affordability and similar features, including the ability to work with professional layers and fine-tune snap functionality. GIMP has a full photo editing interface available which you can customize to suit your needs. It features photo enhancement features that allow users to fix perspective distortion and explore filters. Digital retouching tools are also available, and users can save work in multiple file formats, including PNG, TIFF, and GIF. Because the GIMP environment is powered by a community of developers, you can expect a lot of regular updates and new features as well.

It's ease of use and layout. I also like the fact it is free. It is also good that there are numerous tutorials on Youtube showing you how to perform certain tasks, and may put some tutorials on my channel regarding Gimp. I can honestly say Gimp by far has been the most useful, and best free software I have ever used, and will continue to use for both business and pleasure for as long as its around!
It does take quite a while to load up which can be slightly frustrating but doesn't affect the use of the software. I guess because I have used it for so long now that I find it rather easy to use but thinking back to when I first had it, it was rather confusing, but with time, use and Youtube it is an enjoyable programme to use with a reasonably easy to use interface.
As a small business I have a tight budget and Gimp offers everything I need to complete all marketing jobs I need doing and do them professionally. It has helped me design everything from the design on my company vehicle, to company posters, leaflets ect, ect,
This is a very powerful set of image editing tools and should be placed in a 'one click icon' on your computer screen. I purchased and used to use the Corel suite of programs for a couple decades before I switched to this FREE masterpiece. I haven't found a feature I need that is not there and there are many features and capabilities that I have not had available to me before in Corel.
There is a not insignificant learning curve in order be productive after such a long time using Corel. There is just a different way of doing things in Gimp that are not always intuitive.
If you see it on your computer screen, then Gimp can take a screenshot or image and let you modify professionally to your hearts content.
Free! Free!! Free!!! Free software that packs huge, heavy punches! Out of the free photo manipulation software out there, GIMP is simply outstanding. GIMP comes with all the features one would expect from a professional, paid package. GIMP can do just about anything the popular professional photo manipulation packages can do. It is regularly updated and available on several platforms. It also has a very vibrant community of supporters.
The user interface is not intuitive and makes learning curve a little steep.
I use GIMP for photo manipulation in my web development business. It has helped me save cost in purchase of expensive graphic package. Plugins are required at times to get a particular set of features.
I like GIMP a lot for it's open-source and free-alternative to Adobe's Photoshop.
Getting used to the UI takes awhile, especially coming from having used Adobe Photoshop.
GIMP is a great tool I can use to quickly crop, or change colors of pictures I need for work.
I like Gimp a lot because it is a very complete image editor. It can be said that it offers functionalities very similar to those of other payment softwares of this type. However, Gimp is free, which I love, is open source and compatible with major operating systems. Another of the main advantages of Gimp is that it is a portable software, that is, it can be transported and installed from a USB memory and it is also available in several languages.
I've been using this wonderful program for a while and I like everything about it. I really do not have anything bad to say. I love it!
Gimp is wonderful. In my work as a photographer I need a quick and complete program. Gimp has been the solution for that, this program allows me to cut, change size and make a professional edition to my photographs in a fast and reliable way. I have obtained great professional results thanks to Gimp!
GIMP has nearly the same functionality and capabilities as Adobe Photoshop without the huge price tag. If you're designing simple projects, making a quick fix or just simply can't afford the fancier products, GIMP is the way to go! Everyone in our office has it downloaded on their computer and we use it daily.
There are a few minor interface issues that I would change, but nothing that affects functionality. Overall, it's a great product for the price and I'm thankful we discovered it. I've never had to use the customer support/help options, so that might speak for itself.
It's so easy to make a quick fix or design something simple in GIMP that it's made us more efficient. Everyone in our office has GIMP on their desktop, so we can easily share files without having to worry about the headache of shared accounts and price per computer issues that we experienced with Photoshop.
It works as well as Adobe Photoshop, etc. There is almost no image manipulation you can't do with GIMP. I can cut out parts of an image, add text, create a transparent background , add images on top of an image to create a multi-layered image.
It would be nice if it was a little more user friendly. It would be nice if it had a few more options similar to PS. Also, it would be nice if the icons (tools) on the left and right were larger.
All of my photo and image manipulating can be done easily at no additional cost to my business. Another benefit is the easy manipulation of images for use in web design.
The easy interface and vibrant tool set. Gimp give a lot of customisable tools and operation sets which are one of the best in this genre. The file size is also small while the installation is also smooth and facile. With the latest update, gimp 2.10.6 has a lot more to explore and learn.
Nothing really. gimp offers a lot more than some others in the domain that too for free. It would be great if it can bring in some customisable modules for dynamic image editing with more power to masking and layers.
we use GIMP extensively for preparing researhc sketchs and modify images and enhnace, photoshop them and create great pics.
You can't go wrong with this full featured and free graphic editing software. GIMP does the same thing as the larger names in image editing but without the cost. GIMP is surprisingly easy to use as well. The methodology of process just seem to make sense as well. So you don't have to search high and low through the software for settings to make simple changes.
My biggest complaint with GIMP is that it does not support for .svg files. A secondary complaint is that there seems to be workflow changes in some of the larger upgrades.
GIMP is the go-to image editor in my department, and we have saved a lot of money without sacrificing quality because of it.
Gimp has almost all the same features as Photoshop but is much less in storage size and easier to use. It is a very helpful tool for creating simple graphics, editing existing images or even creating complex layered graphics.
Not much to dislike. Sometimes really old images do not load correctly within Gimp due to vectors but that doesn't happen often enough for it to be a major problem.
Gimp is used often to help in our ad banner service where we use it to edit banners we create to match the criteria of our clients before they are using in online and offline advertising or within our Wi-FI network.
Honestly, the price is what drew me to GIMP initially, but it is a viable photo/ image editing program and has most of the features needed by light users.
The user interface isn't easy to navigate. If you go long periods of time in between uses you tend to forget how to use it.
It allows me to edit some of our in house photos/ images in an inexpensive manner.
I love that GIMP is a free software and great for amateur users like myself. It's a great way to start using a photo editing software before you invest in something like Photoshop. I like that most things are pretty straightforward and things that may not be are just a google search away. I've been able to edit and create photo booth templates for our photo booth services as well as create marketing material through the GIMP software.
There's not much to dislike about the program other than some limitations compared to photoshop and issues with the software itself like glitches where the program shuts down without saving and work can get lost. Perhaps more frequent software updates would be helpful.
Our company uses GIMP to make simple templates for our photo booth. It's pretty user friendly and if there's something I don't know how to do - I can simply google the issue and there are many online solutions for this software specifically since it's widely used.
Probably it is one of the best free and opensource graphics editor. You can do almost everything related to image retouching.
It is quite complex to use if you start from scratch. It can be quite tedious sometimes.
Retouching and editing high-quality images for scientific purposes.
GIMP is a wonderful GNU Image Editor. It is open-source, and we really enjoy how it can run by itself without X11. We use GIMP to enhance image clarity, so that we don't have to pay for licenses, because GIMP is free and free to use. We love how GIMP lets us save files as GIMP files, and also as image files, without waiting too long for our computer softwares. GIMP is extremely fast, and we are grateful for it.
GIMP sometimes crashes if it's outdated; so we always make sure to update GIMP. We also don't like how GIMP is a standalone application; we believe that it should have its own installer. Also, we would like to be able to donate to GIMP; we feel that GIMP deserves much more respect than its commercial competitors. We dislike how GIMP does not boast; it should boast more about its terminal capabilities too.
GIMP helps us manipulate images in such a way that enhance their viewing online, using universal color shades to help best display them across different devices. We are also realizing the benefit of having different shades for different devices, and how GIMP's easy terminal features can let us test such conditions as if we were actually viewing the image across multiple device screens.
I've been utilizing Gimp to develop digital art for years and it as excellent as any program I've utilized. Complete functions brushes, color choice, pressure level of sensitivity, and so on. Choice tool is effective and can grow and control the choice.
There are couple of plugins to include brand-new functions, the view grids are really dark often the image does not look great. There is little paperwork about GIMP, in addition to few neighborhoods.
GIMP supplies all the needed tools to modify your images as an expert. It is an exceptional image editor. If you have to enhance the photos for your marketing project this is an excellent alternative.
It is a great product being developed by an amazing team, free to use for ever, and upgrading is also very easy, very good in image editing and manipulation, it opens any image of any structure and it saves in tons of extensions also.
It still has some glitches left, but I do think they will be fixed soon, also not that much tuts on the software.
Image manipulation and creation
The best is that it's easy to use, and without much effort you can do very interesting things. There are floating toolboxes that it's very useful, because you can do all tasks from there.
Although it's powerful tool, some tasks are not equals to another applications like Photoshop.
We use to edit the advertising brochures of the services that we do.
GIMP it'a a vectorial image editor that does what I need and it's totally free. There are much options that normally I don't use, but for advanced users can be useful. It's similar to Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop but a bit simpler.
The native format that works GIMP it's different of other image editors, and isn't JPG/PNG... so you need to export the images and import again to deal with the formats.
I use for little tasks like for example, draw things for manuals of applications, edit PDFs to update some information, edit some photo, etc.
