"Great core functionality, bad service, costly add-ons and fees"
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

Smartsheet is powerful because there are so many ways that a user can implement it. I use it for an incredibly diverse range of projects: managing inventories, placing lunch orders for company events, automating repeated marketing and HR tasks, setting team members' quarterly goals with deadlines, etc.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

There's a stiff implementation fee that includes training with a Smartsheet customer success rep for any new product -- regardless of your personal Smartsheet expertise. Even though I indicated that I was a very experienced user, my rep seemed pretty green. Most shockingly, he was unaware of one of Smartsheet's core features and spent time building me a custom solution when Smartsheet already had an elegant solution. He (appropriately) sought to educate himself before our next meeting and did not count that time toward my implementation. I reached out to my sales rep to let him know both about the poor training experience and that my trainer's response was as good as it possibly could be considering the situation; my sales rep never responded to that email, which leads me to my next complaint... The customer service leaves a lot to be desired. When I needed to add licenses to my account, I had to reach out multiple times via various methods to finally get service; my sales rep responded slowly and unhelpfully to my requests, so I started filling in a contact form on the site requesting escalation to a manager. The person who first contacted me was not a manager and did not provide a helpful answer to my questions. The manager I finally spoke with (after getting snarkier in my requests) finally helped get things done quickly, but was ignorant of my poor experiences to date. New user licenses can only be added in packages of 3. I don't understand why that would be necessary. It seems like a way to nickle and dime their users, particuarly for smaller accounts where 1 or 2 unused seats might represent a large cost proportionately. The add-on costs are outrageous. They are not tiered based on the scale of use, meaning that my need for 1-3 views in Dynamic View for less than 200 users was priced the same — a whopping $15k — as an enterprise account that might have 30 views used by thousands of users. This is significantly more expensive than the base cost of the service — as if you ordered a side of whole lobster with your burger. There's also a new implementation fee. I was only able to get the cost approved after relating my poor experiences and frustrations to the manager who was helping me, and getting a prorated, reduced fee that did not include training. The functionality of the Dynamic View add-on has disappointed me. Part of my impetus for using it was to avoid the need for users to open a form each time they needed to make updates, which is a clunkier user experience than being able to write updates directly in a cell. I incorrectly assumed that they would be able to copy/paste multiple cells in a less limiting fashion than allowed when enacting updates through an individual row's form. Unfortunately, that's how Dynamic View works -- opening a form at the row level each time the user clicks on a row. I've only just started testing my use case for Dynamic View, and so far, each user has complained about their inability to write directly into cells. Luckily, my use case is a project that will not be repeated next year, so I won't need to renew Dynamic View next year.

What problems is Smartsheet solving and how is that benefiting you?

I and the team members who I've onboarded use it for a wide range of processes — from managing the onboarding of new team members, to managing the timelines of opening new facilities.

"Smartsheet helps manage projects"
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

I like how easy and versatile the product is to use. In its simplest form, you enter your data into a spreadsheet. From there, you can choose the way to view your data that makes the most sense: as a grid, a gantt chart, a Kanban board, or a calendar. The versatility comes in the ability to add formulas to calculate values, integration with Microsoft 365, sharing via permissions, and project tracking and reporting. If you are willing to invest time and effort into learning the product, their is considerable power on tap.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

While it's easy to get started and if all you want to do is accomplish task management, the learning curve is minimal. But like any product with a heavy set of features, there needs to be an investment in learning and working with the product to get the most out of it. That part I don't mind. The part I do mind is that the product is not always intuitive. I've been using the product for years and there are still things I struggle with that should be simple, like finding my sheets. Navigation needs to be reworked. Smartsheet has made some effort to improve this over the years, but it's still a challenge. It's probably the number one frustration expressed by our users. The second issue is cost. Some integrations are included, but others cost hefty sums. In one instance, we wanted to connect Smarsheet to Jira, but we discovered that the integration for our small development team would cost more than the product itself. As another example, basic reporting is included, but more advanced reporting is an extra cost. Reporting is such an essential function of product management that I feel this should be included. I don't expect Smartseet to give away its product and services, but the pricing structure makes the product a difficult value proposition in some respects.

What problems is Smartsheet solving and how is that benefiting you?

Employees are expected to enter their KPIs into Smartsheet and track progress toward completion. These in turn are tracked against the organization's goals and mission. More recently, we've started using Smartsheet in Kanban mode to track our organization's largest projects, evaluating progress in weekly, all-staff standup meetings. Everyone can see what their contributions are, identify critical paths, monitor roadblocks, etc. From task management through "big picture" management, Smartsheet is helping to keep everyone--and every project--on track.

"Smartsheet - A Powerful Spreadsheet Service"
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

Smartsheet's features provide all the essential tools for spreadsheets with powerful features to increase productivity, efficiency, and flexibility. Alongside the data in rows and columns, advanced formulas are used for high-level reporting and automation. Dashboards and reports are tailored for various departments to ensure each employee has the insights they need to do their job effectively. Smartsheet items are managed easily and secured with the different sharing permissions and groups. The admin center through Smartsheet increases efficiency for IT Analysts to manage how Smartsheet is used throughout the organization by providing user and group management, access reports, licensing requests, and the ability to enable/disable features to best fit the needs of company. Smartsheet is a reliable service which reduces downtime and provides complete transparency when it comes service status. Smartsheet continues to release new features each year, engaging with customers through feedback such as enhancement requests. Overall, Smartsheet is an asset in a business environment for it's collaboration and project management benefits.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

Cost - Having experience with the Enterprise Smartsheet plan, many features are included where the price for licenses is justifiable. However, other Smartsheet add-ons introduced over the years that may benefit some projects would have to be purchased in addition to the plan, and the price does not justify the benefits. One example is a more comprehensive tool such as Control Center that would require rebuilding many projects from scratch to implement correctly. Departments managing these projects find alternative solutions that are more cost-effective. In addition, tools such as filtering sheets and updating report criteria are unavailable for unlicensed users when these features were previously available, which is misleading when planning licensing and distribution.

What problems is Smartsheet solving and how is that benefiting you?

Project Management. Miscommunication. Accessibility. Reduce manual data collection and entry. Productivity has increased by consolidating data and creating high-level data analytics through reports and dashboards.

"Unusable unless you pay for a corporate level license--think $1K per year or more."
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

Use to love this service at the ~$100 per year price point, but then they removed the ability to have non-licensed users edit the sheets at that level. Now they want 10x the license fees in order for me to effectively share my sheets with non-licensed users. Clearly, their business model does not apply to smaller companies.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

Unfortunately, the licensing will get you if you are not careful. The bulk of the value of this product is the ability to share these types of documents without having to e-mail them to others and maintain version control. I have had an individual license for a number of years that costs $168 per year and allows me to create up to 60 SmartSheet documents with unlimited sharing. This license is no longer available. The "upgrade" to the Pro license is actually a downgrade that costs more--$252 per year. While allowing the account to have three "designers" and more SmartSheet documents, each document can only be shared with ten users. If you want to share any document with more than ten users, you have no choice but to "upgrade" to the next level, which--at $950 PER YEAR--Is almost QUADRUPLE the price! Anyone in even a medium-sized organization will need to share a document or two with more than ten users, so I would not over-commit to Smart Sheets unless you are ready to pay them $1K every year, in perpetuity.

What problems is Smartsheet solving and how is that benefiting you?

Mostly using it for project management and budgeting.

"An In-Depth Review of a Versatile Tool for Project Management"
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

A flexible and useful application, Smartsheet provides a number of features to improve team collaboration, project management, and data analysis. As a regular user of Smartsheet at my workplace, I have discovered it to be a really beneficial tool that has streamlined our work processes and increased productivity. Here are some of the main characteristics that distinguish Smartsheet as a unique tool: Collaboration: The collaboration tools in Smartsheet are among its best qualities. Team members can collaborate in real-time, give comments and feedback, and assign tasks and due dates using the platform's central workspace. This makes it simple to maintain consensus and guarantee that initiatives are progressing without hitches. Project Management The project management tools in Smartsheet are also quite helpful. It is notably useful to visualize project deadlines and dependencies using the Gantt chart view, and creating new projects is made simple by the use of adaptable project templates. The resource management tools can also be used to assign team members to specific tasks and monitor productivity. Data Management: The data management tools in Smartsheet are likewise exceptional. The system provides an adaptable spreadsheet interface that can deal with a variety of data formats, from straightforward lists to intricate databases. Structured data gathering is made possible by custom forms, while data analysis and insight generation are made simple by conditional formatting and formulas. The fact that Jira and Salesforce are integrated with Smartsheet makes it simple to sync data between platforms. Which can be ventured more in the future in our case. Analytics and Reporting: The reporting and analytics tools of Smartsheet are also quite helpful for producing insights and tracking performance. The dashboards give a high-level overview of important parameters; however, further in-depth research is possible thanks to customisable reporting and data visualization options. Monitoring particular metrics and data changes is also made simple via alerts and connections with programs like Tableau and Power BI. Customer Support Whenever I have had an issue or question about using Smartsheet, I have been able to easily access their support team through the platform's online chat or email support. I have found their support team to be highly responsive, with most inquiries being answered within a matter of hours. Overall, Smartsheet is a highly valuable tool that offers a wide range of features to help teams collaborate more effectively, manage projects efficiently, and analyze data with ease. As someone who uses it on a daily basis, I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to improve their team's productivity and streamline their work processes.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

While Smartsheet has many useful features, there are also some downsides and areas for improvement that users should be aware of: Pricing: The cost of using Smartsheet is one of its main drawbacks. Although the platform has many features and functionalities, some organizations, especially smaller teams or businesses, may find the pricing to be excessive. Also, the pricing system is quite complicated, with various plans and pricing tiers dependent on the required features, storage space, and the quantity of users. Learning Curve The learning curve necessary to utilize Smartsheet efficiently is another possible issue. While there are many aspects of Smartsheet that are obvious, there are also other complex features and settings that might be challenging to learn. For teams who are unfamiliar with project management or data analysis, this might be especially difficult. Customization: Although Smartsheet allows for a lot of customization, some users might perceive the platform to be constrained in some ways. For instance, there are several formatting options that are either unavailable or impossible to use without a workaround. Comparative to the web version, the platform's mobile app similarly offers restricted capabilities. Integrations: While there are numerous platforms and tools that Smartsheet can integrate with, some users might discover that their favourite programs or services are not supported. This can make it difficult to link and distribute data among many systems in an efficient manner. Performance: While dealing with huge datasets or challenging tasks, some users may encounter performance challenges with Smartsheet. When working under pressure to meet deadlines, it can be unpleasant when the platform takes a long time to load and periodically freezes or crashes. Pivot Chart: One of the primary differences between Smartsheet and Excel is the ability to create Pivot Charts. While Excel offers this functionality as a built-in feature, Smartsheet requires an additional add-on called "Pivot App" that comes with an additional fee. This can be a disadvantage for users who frequently use Pivot Charts. Combo Charts: The ability to generate Combo Charts is another capability that Smartsheet does not have natively but which Excel does. A line chart and a bar chart, for example, are two different chart styles that are combined in this type of representation. A limitation for certain users may be the inability to build Combo Charts, despite the fact that Smartsheet does offer a variety of chart formats. Formulas: While Smartsheet does offer a variety of formulae, it might not have all of the same features as Excel, which is known for its powerful formula capabilities. Smartsheet may not provide all necessary complex or specialized formulas, which could be a drawback for users who need to perform sophisticated computations. Automation: The degree of automation offered by Smartsheet and Excel is another significant distinction. While Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) and macros can automate Excel, Smartsheet provides more robust automation options due to its interfaces with other programs and platforms. Users that want to automate data collecting and processing across many platforms may find this to be advantageous. Smartsheet is still a strong and useful tool for project management, data organizing, and collaboration despite several restrictions and drawbacks. Teams wishing to simplify their workflows and boost productivity will find it to be a great solution thanks to its user-friendly interface, rich feature set, and integration potential. Some users might miss specific Excel functions, but Smartsheet's distinct advantages, such its automation features and collaboration facilities, more than make up for any drawbacks. Overall, Smartsheet is an excellent project management application that I wholeheartedly endorse to anyone searching for one.

What problems is Smartsheet solving and how is that benefiting you?

1. Streamlining Project Management: Our team was handling numerous projects utilizing a variety of platforms and technologies prior to using Smartsheet. As a result, there was a great deal of confusion and inefficiency because team members frequently worked in silos and communication problems were frequent. We can now combine all of our project management efforts onto one platform thanks to Smartsheet. This has made it possible for us to strengthen teamwork, track progress more effectively, and streamline our workflows. 2. Organizing data more effectively: Managing enormous volumes of data across numerous spreadsheets and platforms was one of the main difficulties we had prior to utilizing Smartsheet. This resulted in mistakes, inconsistencies, and time wasted trying to find information. We can now efficiently organize and track our data thanks to Smartsheet's robust data management tools. Our team members' accuracy, decision-making, and workload have all improved as a result. 3. Enhancing Collaboration: The absence of efficient collaboration tools was yet another significant issue we encountered. Our team members used email, the phone, and face-to-face meetings to communicate before Smartsheet. This frequently caused misunderstandings, poor communication, and delays in the completion of projects. With the help of Smartsheet, we can now work together in real-time, share files and comments, and designate tasks to particular team members. As a result, our teamwork has increased, our communication has substantially improved, and our error rate has decreased. Overall, Smartsheet has been a game-changer for our organization. By solving some of our most pressing problems and enhancing our workflows, it has helped us to work more efficiently, reduce errors, and improve collaboration among team members.

"Experience with Smartsheet is nothing short of fantastic, Smartsheet makes it all incredibly easy."
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

Smartsheet is an efficient and organized tool manifold, it helps me manage tasks and projects, and collaborate whether I am managing a small personal project or large-scale enterprise projects for casinos. The interface is quite intuitive with customizable templates and the ability to create workflows tailored to specific needs, I just feel empowered to adapt Smartsheet to any project or task at hand. The project plans can be shared with external stakeholders thus giving them real-time visibility of their projects. You can define dependencies within the project, the predecessors, and Successors, the baseline feature is a game changer as it helps you reference the dates and helps you track the lag in the process and timeline, thus you would know when to accelerate to meet the milestones. Smartsheet is a very handy tool and I simply love it.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

While I have had mostly a positive experience with Smartsheet, there are some areas where I feel there is room for improvement. Smartsheet provides a lot of flexibility and customization options, but it can sometimes feel overwhelming for new users. The learning curve is deep. A more user-friendly onboarding process or interactive guides could help ease the learning process. Despite some minor drawbacks, Smartsheet is a powerful and effective tool for Project management and collaboration.

What problems is Smartsheet solving and how is that benefiting you?

1. Lack of visibility and accountability - Smartsheet provides a centralized platform where teams can track and manage the projects, tasks, and deadlines. It helps improve visibility into project progress, responsibilities, and potential bottlenecks ensuring everyone is on the same page and accountable for their work. 2. Inefficient communication and collaboration - Smartsheet offers real-time collaboration features. allowing team members to work together on sheets. share updates and provide feedback. This helps streamline communication, reduce email overload, and foster a more efficient and collaborative work environment. 3. Disorganised and scattered data - Smartsheet provides a structured and organized way to store, manage, and analyze data. With its spreadsheet-like interface users can create custom sheets, templates, and reports to keep their data organized, accessible, and actionable. 4. Manual and time-consuming processes - Smartsheet automates repetitive tasks and workflows, saving time and reducing errors. It offers features like automated alerts, reminders, and notifications as well as the ability to set-up dependencies and automate approvals, enabling teams to focus on more strategic and value-added work. 5. Lack of project visibility and reporting - Smarthseet offers robust reporting and analytics capabilities, allowing users to generate visual reports, dahboards, and charts to again insight into project performance, resource allocation, and overall progress. This helps stakeholders make informed decisions and track the success of their projects.

"Smartsheet - just ok"
What do you like best about Smartsheet?

Being able to create customized sheets, forms and reports. Linking data from other sheets.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

Lag in getting support for critical issues. Have to wait days or even weeks to get support to respond. Updates to Smartsheet often take away features/capabilities that then make more work, add cost and time to finding a "workaround". User requests go largely ignored/unanswered. Many, many user requests from 2, 3, 4, 5 or more years ago still have not been resolved. Development team apparently works in a vacuum, no apparent 'real world' experience or thought.

What problems is Smartsheet solving and how is that benefiting you?

Time and expense tracking. Our customized Smartsheet solution WAS saving me time and effort until the latest update that took away Report Builder functions from free users. Now updating Report Builder values falls back on me, costing our company time and money. Have spent another 1+ hours on Pro Desk sessions that only result in more complicated sheets, more burden on myself and users costing us more $. Add this to the 15+ hours I spent with Support trying to resolve this and finally being told I need to buy another 10 licenses in order that users can edit one simple date field in Report Builder, and I fail to see why we should continue using Smartsheet.
